Connect w/ your Cleanser!

        It is unanimous that it is important to use a good facial cleanser for your skin because it protects the skin from dirt, dead cells, and free radicals. In addition, by using the right cleanser your skin will appear more healthy, radiant, and fresh. However, by using the wrong cleanser it can make your skin dry, dull, and irritated. So how do you choose the right cleanser for you?  It can be overwhelming to choose the right product for your skin with so many skin products being on the market, so here are a few tips that will lead you in the right direction:

1. Identify Your Skin Type
It is very important for you to know what type of skin you have so you can determine what it needs.
Skin Chart:
Normal = proper ph balance, moisture, and oil
Oily= shiny or quickly oily
Dry= flaky and dull
Combination= oily, dry, little ph balance
Acne= hormonal, bacterial
Sensitive= hypoallergenic, easily irritated

2. Connect with your Cleanser
By knowing your skin type it will help you narrow your choices by excluding what products you don't need. For example, if you have dry skin then you want to stay away from alcohol based products and for sensitive skin you would want to avoid chemical and fragrance products.

-Read ingredients
-Research Products
-Ask questions

3. Stay as "Natural" As possible
I personally like to use natural based products with the least amount of chemicals and alcohol. Products containing a lot of chemicals and alcohol can actually cause long term damage for the skin by damaging layers of the skin. Know what you are applying on your skin.

4. Monitor Your Skin
Keep in track of your skin and monitor its results. See if you can notice a difference in your skin and if your skin likes what your using on it. Like a relationship, you'll know if it is a keeper or if its time to move on!

ANTICIPATION

      To "anticipate" means to think, speak, act, or feel an emotional response in advance of a situation's time. I think many of us get caught up in anticipating a situation because the emotion brings up feelings of curiosity, anxiousness, and impatience. It is difficult to remain sturdy especially when you are anticipating the outcome of a situation, but the important thing to remember is that the outcome is going to be exactly what its going to be and it is not worth wasting energy on something that can not be determined until its actual time. Life is a journey and the mystery that comes along with it is actually what makes the journey possible. We never know the outcome of a situation until we are in that exact moment so therefore it is best to stay away from the " what ifs, why, hows" and just relax and let the Universe unfold whatever it has in store for you. The interesting thing is that even when something ends it is the beginning of something new!

Live in the moment and be open to ALL possibilities!

Skin Toner: Needed or Not?

       There is actually quite a debate between dermatologists and estheticians when it comes to skin toner. Some say it is absolutely necessary and the others say it is optional. After doing some research, I say that anything that contributes to more radiance for your skin should be included in your skin care routine. Toner is like an assistant to your cleanser, anything the the cleanser misses out on the toner will take care of. The purpose of a toner is to remove any leftover makeup, clean cleanser residue, close pores, and to prevent any infection or absorption of bacteria from entering the skin. The benefits of using a good toner is that it will improve the look of your skin by tightening the pores, the cleansiness makes the skin look more rejuvenated with a glow, restores the natural PH balance for the skin, and with regular use it can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. So there you have it, the functions of a toner; it is your preference whether you use it or not but personally I love the way my toner does a deep clean for my skin and maintains its PH balance. The only thing that I would recommend is using a alcohol free toner that does not dry out the skin and stay as natural based as you can!

Taking Care of You...

         We are our biggest assets and sometimes it easy to neglect our needs because we spend so much of our time accommodating and catering to other aspects of our life. Such as work, school, family, relationships, community, and friends. Although all these components are a part of life and are a blessing to have, it is important to check in with yourself and make sure that your needs and wants are being fulfilled. It is healthy to stay connected with yourself, honor yourself, and really be a part of your full being. When you feel sturdy from within then nothing in this world seems impossible to achieve! So how do we get to the deeper part of the self?  I came up with a method that I think will be very valuable to each individual. The concept is to "create a personal tool box" (not literally unless you want too) with items that YOU love, bring you comfort, and are soothing to you. By recognizing your tools, they will be available to help you when you need to cope with something or just be in a personal space. There are always going to be challenges and tests in life but how we handle the situation is what will get us through it. It is your tool box and there is no limit to what it can have! The point of this exercise is to recognize YOUR valuable tools and have them accessible to use whenever you need too. The more you know about yourself the less complicated life's challenges will be because you will have a variety of different tools to choose from that you created especially for you!

Example: Some items in my Tool Box:

Exercise #2 / Create Your Personal Tool Box:

Write down a list of things that are comforting, positive, and bring ease to you. Think about what brings you peace, happiness, motivation, clarity, etc... Once you begin this exercise, then you already have a designed special tool box for you! :)

Variety of Facial Masks

     Using a mask is essential to include in your skin care routine. A mask should be used at least once a week and the type of mask to use is chosen depending on what your current skin situation is and what it may need. Our skin is forever changing and needs different nutrients at different times. Benefits of using a mask are tighter, brighter, and visibly healthier skin. Here are the types of masks that you can apply on your face:

* Moisturizing Facial Masks:
Nourishes, hydrates, and restores the skin, when the skin is properly hydrated then it has a more fresh and radiant look to it

*Mud and Clay Facial Masks:
Absorbs oil in the skin and tightens the skin for a more firmer look

*Exfoliating Facial Masks:
Rejuvenates and brightens the skin by removing dead cells that can make the skin look dull

*Peel-Off Facial Masks:
Refreshes the skin by clearing clogged pores

*Gel Facial Masks:
Cooling and soothing affect on the skin but with a more gentle hydration

Enjoy Your Mask!..:)
