Increase Your Collagen

       I have learned that collagen is much more than a anti-aging tool it is a major protein that is found in all body parts. Collagen is needed for the body's connective tissues, bones, ligaments, joints and the skin which is the largest organ of the body. Collagen is important because it supplies the body with structural support for its complete function. For the skin, collagen pairs up with another protein called elastin and both combined are responsible for the skin's strength, flexibility, and elasticity. When collagen decreases in the skin then the skin begins to wrinkle, sag, and age. Collagen is also important for the bone because our bones are made up of collagen and a mineral called hydroxyapatile which structure our body, its durability and agility. Lastly, collagen also contributes to our muscles by using its fiber to smooth muscles like the bladder, reproductive system, and heart for their functions. Clearly, it is very important to prevent collagen loss and increase collagen production for health and beauty. The key factor in increasing collagen production truly does begin with a person's diet. If there is anything I can emphasize on it will be VITAMIN C, it is essential to eat foods infused in Vitamin C for collagen production and tissue repair. What you choose to put in your body will result in the affects that it has on your body. Here are some healthy choices to increase collagen production:

Production Team:

1.Proteins ( Meat, Fish, Dairy,)

2.Antioxidants All High in Vitamin C ( oranges, berries, mangoes, tomatoes, broccoli, spinach, all greens)

3. Mineral Rich foods ( lentils, walnuts, garlic, dried fruit)

* Always drink plenty of water and exercise to enhance the production!

Connect w/ your Cleanser!

        It is unanimous that it is important to use a good facial cleanser for your skin because it protects the skin from dirt, dead cells, and free radicals. In addition, by using the right cleanser your skin will appear more healthy, radiant, and fresh. However, by using the wrong cleanser it can make your skin dry, dull, and irritated. So how do you choose the right cleanser for you?  It can be overwhelming to choose the right product for your skin with so many skin products being on the market, so here are a few tips that will lead you in the right direction:

1. Identify Your Skin Type
It is very important for you to know what type of skin you have so you can determine what it needs.
Skin Chart:
Normal = proper ph balance, moisture, and oil
Oily= shiny or quickly oily
Dry= flaky and dull
Combination= oily, dry, little ph balance
Acne= hormonal, bacterial
Sensitive= hypoallergenic, easily irritated

2. Connect with your Cleanser
By knowing your skin type it will help you narrow your choices by excluding what products you don't need. For example, if you have dry skin then you want to stay away from alcohol based products and for sensitive skin you would want to avoid chemical and fragrance products.

-Read ingredients
-Research Products
-Ask questions

3. Stay as "Natural" As possible
I personally like to use natural based products with the least amount of chemicals and alcohol. Products containing a lot of chemicals and alcohol can actually cause long term damage for the skin by damaging layers of the skin. Know what you are applying on your skin.

4. Monitor Your Skin
Keep in track of your skin and monitor its results. See if you can notice a difference in your skin and if your skin likes what your using on it. Like a relationship, you'll know if it is a keeper or if its time to move on!

Variety of Facial Masks

     Using a mask is essential to include in your skin care routine. A mask should be used at least once a week and the type of mask to use is chosen depending on what your current skin situation is and what it may need. Our skin is forever changing and needs different nutrients at different times. Benefits of using a mask are tighter, brighter, and visibly healthier skin. Here are the types of masks that you can apply on your face:

* Moisturizing Facial Masks:
Nourishes, hydrates, and restores the skin, when the skin is properly hydrated then it has a more fresh and radiant look to it

*Mud and Clay Facial Masks:
Absorbs oil in the skin and tightens the skin for a more firmer look

*Exfoliating Facial Masks:
Rejuvenates and brightens the skin by removing dead cells that can make the skin look dull

*Peel-Off Facial Masks:
Refreshes the skin by clearing clogged pores

*Gel Facial Masks:
Cooling and soothing affect on the skin but with a more gentle hydration

Enjoy Your Mask!..:)

Nutrition, Nutrition, Nutrition

       I just recently started taking classes to learn more about herbs and holistic skin care. It has been super interesting and I have enjoyed learning tremendously. One of the amazing things about our body is the physiology that takes places within us and actually understanding how the body works. There are many components that are interconnected within the body to make it function correctly; however, it is so important to nourish the body with the supplements that it needs to function correctly. Everything begins from our inner health and reflects on the outside. One of the best ways to have vibrant skin ,a fit body, and confidence is through your personal nutrition and exercise. I think it is really important to go back to the basic four food groups and make sure that you are eating a well balanced meal. It is not about how much, how little, or how frequent you eat, but actually feeding your body balanced meals filled with nutrients that it needs. Check out the basic four food groups and start eating better today:

*Protein- meat and fish

*Carbohydrate- bread, pasta, rice

*Fiber- fruits and vegetables

*Dairy - milk and cheese

Maintain Your Beauty

    Although aging is inevitable, there are many things that we can do to delay the process and age gracefully. How we take care of ourselves now (internally and externally) will result in our appearance later. Many people fear aging but it is not necessarily a bad thing. As we grow older we actually become more comfortable in our own skin and understand ourselves better through life's experience. I say, "aging should not be feared but embraced like a fine glass of wine"!

Healthy Habits:

1. Drink Lots of Water Everyday

2. Exercise Regularly

3. Include Fruits & Vegetables in your diet

4. Eat Vitamins

5. Have a good skin regimen

Love Yourself!!!
